Chaiporn Pookhaothong - Pianist
Chaiporn Pookhaothong was born in Thailand. He entered the Purcell School of Music where he was taught by Jean Anderson and continued his studies with Bernard Roberts at the Royal College of Music where he was awarded the most prestigious scholarship, the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Scholarship.
After this course, he went on to the Trinity College of Music to study with Philip Fowke. Whilst at Music Colleges, Chaiporn has won major prizes and awards, namely the Joy Scott, Kendal Taylor, Gladys Puttick and Weingarten Prizes. These were awarded for his performance of Chopin, Beethoven, and Schumann and for the Art of Improvisation. Other prizes included awards from the Ian Fleming Trust (in 1998 and 1999), the Myra Hess awarded was made in 1999 for the most outstanding young pianists and he was also awarded a scholarship to attend International Music course at Interlochen Academy of Arts, Michigan, USA.
He made his concerto debut at the age of 15 with the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra and since then Chaiporn has performed extensively in the UK and Thailand as a recitalist and chamber music player. His recital appearances include the Rachmaninov and the Gnessin School of Music Concert halls in Moscow, Austria, the Purcell room, St Martin in the Fields, Draper's hall, Regent hall, Poole Arts Centre. Chaiporn has made recording for subsequent broadcast over the BBC World Service.
